Designers’ Desire is a proud member of the Goodweave family. The Goodweave label is an assurance that no child labour was used in the making of our rug. In order to earn the Goodweave label, rug manufacturers must be licensed under the Goodweave certification program and sign a legally binding contract to:
- Adhere to the no-child-labour standard and not employ any person under the age of 14.
- Allow unannounced random inspections by local inspector.
To ensure compliance, independent Goodweave inspectors make unannounced inspections of each loom.
If inspectors find children working, they offer them the opportunity to go to school instead, and the producers lose the status with Goodweave.
Care & Fair is an initiative against illegal child labour and for the support of people working in the carpet and rug production in India, Nepal and Pakistan.
Our contribution funds are used for schools and training projects as well as for measures of basic medical care in the rural knotting regions often neglected by local governments.
At present, Care & Fair supports 18 school projects, 10 health projects and 2 adult education projects.
Designers’ Desire is proud to support this wonderful charity and guarantee no child labour has been used in the production of our fine hand crafted rugs.
